Azpilicueta: FA cup isn’t enough to salvage Chelsea’s season
Chelsea and Spanish defender Cesar Azpilicueta believes the FA cup isn’t enough for Chelsea this season.
The deputy captain doesn’t believe the cup signifies a good season for the team.
“We are further away than ever,” Azpilicueta said.
Chelsea slipped to a 3 – 1 defeat at home against Tottenham to further widen the gap between them and the 3rd and 4th position before drawing West Ham again last time out, leaving them 10 points behind Tottenham and Liverpool.
Chelsea are still in the race for a champions League spot mathematically but it’s very unlikely Liverpool and Tottenham would slip up.
Chelsea are also in the FA cup semi finals and would face Southampton but Azpilicueta doesn’t believe the FA cup is enough for them.
“The FA Cup is a massive trophy with a lot of history but it’s not enough for us,” the 28-year-old Spanish defender told BBC Match of the Day.
“We will try to win it but the cup will not save our season.”
